Healing Golden Turmeric Latte

Wow it’s currently -15 and dropping, so basically it was nearly impossible to get out of bed this morning. Thankfully, I am now sipping on this magical turmeric latte and have warmed up enough to tell you about it.

I recently discovered something called VIOME which is this super cool gut microbiome (aka all your bacteria that make up your gut) test where you send in a stool sample and they will analyze it and report back your SPECIFIC gut microbiome data and personalized food/diet recommendations that will promote optimal gut functioning and therefore optimal you functioning. I’ll do a whole post all about my results and how much I’m OBSESSED with what I got back and how amazing I’ve been feeling since switching up my food intake based on their recommendations, but for now I’ll just give you a short little teaser.

My results consisted of a bunch of different sections, such as my superfoods, what foods to enjoy, what foods I should cut out completely, how much I should be eating of each, whyyyyy I should be eating this way, and an analysis of my microbial richness, inflammatorry activity, and metabolic fitness. Among many other things. But for the purposes of this post I will just tell ya that they recommended I have lots of turmeric.

Insert this latte into my life. Boy oh boy am I glad my Viome told me to have more because this latte is absolutely outstanding and I look forward to having one every freakin’ day. AND IT’S SO GOOD FOR YOU!!!! Turmeric contains curcumin which (when consumed with a little black pepper to make it more bio-available) is one of the best anti-inflammatory compounds in the world and we all know by now that chronic inflammation in the body is the root of all evil so basically we should all be trying to get as much of this curcumin as possible.

Also, if you struggle with gut issues or have sneaky intolerances, or even just bloat or have bad gas, you should 100% get your own Viome test done!!! Seriously. Life changing, people. You can use the promo code “bbb10” at Viome.com for $10 off your sample, too!

Happy Monday my fellow health foodies!

Creamy Dairy and Gluten Free “Cheesy” Rice

dairy and gf cheesy rice 2

I’VE DONE IT!!!! I’ve finally found a healthy dairy and gluten free alternative to mac ‘n’ cheese that doesn’t upset my tummy.

Sure there are other faux cheese substitutes that make mac ‘n’ cheese, but even though they’re dairy free, they still usually make me just as sick. Probably because most cheese substitutes are straight chemicals… And nobody wants that. So i try to limit my consumption of the fake cheese as much as I limit the real cheese.

But I have a secret to get my cheese fix on in a healthy, non-dairy and non-chemical way!

Drum roll pleaseeeeeeeee…

NUTRITIONAL YEAST!!!

Ew Bailey, what?

Yeah, I know it sounds weird. I was skeptical at first too. But I gave it a shot and ohh baby am I glad I did!

Nutritional yeast is a dry flaky powder that has a cheesy flavor to it! I love shaking it on pastas or adding it to pizza sauce to trick my brain into thinking I’m eating cheese when I’m actually not.

And I haven’t even told you the best part about nutritional yeast yet! IT’S SUPER NUTRITIOUS!!! Shocking, I know. You never woulda guessed that from the name, huh?

Yup nutritional yeast is a complete protein and is an AMAZING source of B vitamins, folate, and so much more. Plus it’s low in calories, carbs, sodium and is gluten free! It’s also a great way for people who don’t eat animal products to get enough B vitamins in their diet. Aaaaand, in case you forgot, it tastes like cheese!!! You gotta be kidding me with this stuff.

So all you have to do now is whip up a batch of rice (or you could make this with past as well, I just generally steer clear from the stuff hence the rice here) and add in the rest and bada-boom bada-bing: easy peasy cheesy rice. Enjoy!

Green Mango Avocado Smoothie Bowl

Green Smoothie Bowl St patricks day

I hope you’re all wearing green out there while reading this because I have to warn you, I’m one of those annoying people who pinch others on St. Patrick’s day. I mean, why not? Especially if you’re on my bad side I now have the perfect excuse to pinch you without being the weirdo who randomly pinches people for no reason.

Okay ANYWAYS, now that my pinching rant is over, HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY EVERYBODY! And I’m readyyyyyyyyy, to parrrrtayyyyyyy (this is a Bridesmaids reference for all my movie buffs out there). Except if you know me you know I’m just kidding because my partying today will consist of some stair running, beeb’s hockey game, and then maybe a bubble bath with a green bath bomb because I’m festive as hell.

Oh, and it will consist of this super festive and delicious and nutritious and amazing GREEN SMOOTHIE BOWL!!!! Woooot wooottttt. Yes people. This baby has it all. Everything you could possibly need to survive  a day/night of actual partying (which although I won’t be doing, I would be perfectly prepared for it). I’m talking mango, avocado, spinach, banana, and coconut milk with all the toppings, of course. And ya know what you get from all those beautiful ingredients mixed into one delicious package? HEALTH. You get health. In many ways, shapes, and forms. I’ll expand.

Mangos: antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, and alkalizing acids.

Avocados: contain almost 20 vitamins and minerals, fiber, folate, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids (healthy fats).

Raw Spinach: niacin, zinc, folate, calcium, iron, potassium, protein, and vitamins A, C, E, and K.

Bananas: fiber, vitamin B6, potassium, calcium, manganese, magnesium, folate, and iron.

Coconut Milk: lauric acid (healthy fat), manganese, protein, copper, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and potassium.

Chia Seeds: protein, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, and small amounts of other vitamins and minerals.

SO. This is one kick-butt smoothie bowl in the health and taste departments. It pretty much has it all folks. So give your body a little health boost now so it can prepare itself for the damage about to be done later when the partying begins. Oh, and ENJOY YOURSELVES!!!! Happy St. Patty’s Day!!!!
